Cate Beck writes fiction set across Australian cities, where timing is complicated, emotions run high, and everyone has an opinion about everyone else’s life.

Her stories centre on second chances, found family, and relationships that don’t resolve easily—full of banter, tension, and characters who are very sure of themselves until they absolutely aren’t.

Her debut novel, Brisbane Winter, is the first of four standalone but interconnected stories set in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth.

When she’s not writing, Cate can usually be found sleeping with her eyes open in work meetings, whispering compliments to her coffee machine, overthinking fictional relationships, and reminding herself that being married to a tradie means the washing machine will one day revolt, and that’s perfectly fine.
